![]() ![]() We set that aside and came back that way later in the evening look for a chapter about that remarkable visit on Wednesday. Our first planned stop, after we arrived in Nashville around 11.30 local time, was the legendary Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack, but they open later on Saturdays than I thought. ![]() Our daughter stayed home with my mother for the trip, but it still took two cars to transport Marie and me along with Brooke and Tory and their boyfriends Matt and Andrew. We had a group of six plus the baby when we visited. The really great things that we enjoyed on the first Saturday of the month sold me we have penciled in a Friday night visit for March so that we can try the tilapia. Brooke is emphatic that we simply must come on a Friday evening, when they’re open late selling fish tacos. Quite traveler-unfriendly, they are usually a weekday concern, and on weekends, they are only open for brunch on Saturday. We visited Nashville twice in 2010, but neither visit really coincided with a good time to go meet up with Mas Tacos, either the truck or the shop, during their limited hours. She told us that we needed to try Mas Tacos, a food truck that has, in the nearly two years since she told us about it, found a brick-and-mortar base and has been serving up some ridiculously good Tennessee-styled takes on traditional Mexican dishes. Overall, Mas Tacos exceeded my expectations! It will definitely be on the list of places I need to take my friends and family to when they finally visit me in Nashville. When we first told our friends that we were going to make a blog out of our hobby of traveling and eating at fun local places, our good buddy Brooke piped up with a suggestion in Nashville. ![]() It was the perfect refreshment for a hot and humid summer day in Nashville. The pineapple cilantro agua fresca was made with fresh pineapple puree and cilantro. They have a variety of flavors including watermelon and pineapple cilantro. The Fried Avocado Taco (or any of the tacos) also pairs well with an agua fresca ( watermelon fresca pictured).Īgua frescas are fresh fruit juices with no added sugar. The crispy and creamy fried avocado complements the textures of the other ingredients in the taco. This taco will take your avocado addiction to another level. The Fried Avocado Taco had two corn tortillas that were filled with deep fried avocado, spicy dill yogurt, shaved cabbage and onion. The cup was filled to the brim with giant crispy tortilla strips, chicken, tons of avocado slices, cilantro, cherry tomato slices, and cheese.Īnd just when you thought avocados couldn’t get any better, think again. The broth had an earthy flavor with a well-balanced level of spice. It cost $5 and was completely worth it (even on a hot and humid Nashville summer day). My friend ordered a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup. Honestly, these tacos gave my abuelita a run for her money (but please never tell her that). Not only were they a deal at THREE DOLLARS each, but they were also delicious! The Spicy Carne Molida Taco had two corn tortillas that were filled with Cuban style ground beef with spicy onions, salsa, cilantro, and sour cream. I walked up to the counter and ordered two Spicy Carne Molida Tacos. Also, a word of advice bring cash! It’s cash only (but there’s an ATM inside in case you forget). Don’t let the “hole in the wall” façade fool you! This place is bigger than it appears, with an outside patio and Mexican décor. However, as a recent Nashville transplant from Southern California, I was reluctant to go to a Mexican restaurant in the South everyone knows California has the best Mexican food.Īs we pulled up to Mas Tacos I was excited to see it was a “hole in the wall” restaurant and not a “fancy” Mexican place. Mas Tacos was brought to my attention by countless coworkers. Mas Tacos Por Favor, or more commonly known by the locals as Mas Tacos, is a Mexican restaurant located in East Nashville, directly across from The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden (one of the best burger joints in Nashville). ![]()
